The photos above and below show the damage to the legs and the bottom of the pedestal. All three legs had split and had been very badly repaired in the past. As is common with this style, the weight of the table combined with years of items set upon it forced the legs to spread out and severely crack.
As you can see if you look closely, the leg on the left of the photos had also split along the grain line. The combination of damage forced me to design and make new replacement legs. Due to the high cost and availability problems of mahogany, I used sapele for the new legs.
Again, I have to apologize for missing photos. Digital cameras are not always what they are cracked up to be. The photos of the new legs being made did not save and are gone. The above photo shows the completed table again back home and in the exact same location in the happy customers home.
