A very neat old office chair that came in recently. The cane had fallen victim to the infamous knee-through-the seat and...
the back had been broken sometime in the past and had actually been repaired by a skilled workman. However, due to the relative thinness of the oak it had broken out again. It's not good when you can see the dowel pins!
I cleaned out the broken area and re-glued and re-pined the back to the legs. Then I carefully matched a veneer piece over the repairs.
After it had set up, I color matched to the original finish with a stain mix.
Now for the leg. A playful puppy had worked it's magic on the surface and chewed it up good. I sanded it smooth again and actually had to re-cut the reeding.
Another shot as the leg awaits stain matching.
One of the swivels had a wormed out hole, so I removed it and drilled out a new, larger hole. Then I glued in a new hardwood dowel to re-set the swivel.
Here is the re-set swivel ready to roll again!
Then it was time to touch-up the finish on the leg where to pup had chewed it up.
Now to the seat. After cutting away the extra old cane to clear some work space, I got to work removing the old cane and replacing it with new.
As you can see.
Here is the finished chair after I cleaned and brightened the old finish, waiting for the customer to pick it up.
Hope you enjoy some new photos of a very recent repair and restoration on an antique office chair!
