A neat old Heywood Wakefield dining chair that came in just a little shopworn so to speak. No major problems, just a few loose joints and the left arm detached. Also the finish was dull and slightly dirty.
On closer inspection I saw that the arm had cracked through from the screw hole. No pieces were missing so I inserted a new maple dowel and glued and clamped.
Above is a remarkably out-of-focus shot (sorry about that!) of the repaired arm being glued into place. The other arm was also loose but nothing broken or cracked, so repairs were simple.
Here is the finished chair after cleaning and brightening. I think the old gentleman cleaned up rather nicely, don't you? Makes me wish I had a set of these in my house!
