Self-Winding Clock Co. NY Clock Case

This was an interesting one. A Master clock made by the Self-Winding Clock Co. of New York. The company was prevalent in the 1910's through the 1920's and made clocks specifically for the business world, factories, banks and so forth. The Master clock would be installed in the manager or directors office and electrically controlled all other clocks throughout the building. These clocks were known as slaves.

As you can see, the case was dry with some minor separation between the joints both on the carcass and the front. Also, the case showed paint where the wall had been painted around the clock.

After cleaning I was able to rub out the original finish on the front. The case proper had to be stripped and refinished. I was able to successfully color match to the original finish. I used burn-in sticks to fill the minor joint separations.

Here you can see the wires and hook-ups where the works are attached inside the case. All of these clocks were hard-wired into the building's electrical system for both power and for the master to control all of the slave units.

Here are two views of the finished clock case, ready for the works to be re-installed at the jewelers.
